Plus my pointers on when to watermark your media

I am now using an older Canon PowerShot model to take photos — the first time I used this in an anime/cosplay event is at Otaku Expo 2018. I used it again at Cosplay Car

Next week will be Ad Summit Pilipinas, and yours truly will be at the trade expo side. My only fear is the hot, hot climate up north (sans Baguio) — I remember having sore eyes just by sleeping at the side of the car where the sun strikes — aside from that, I am excited.
I am now using an older Canon PowerShot model to take photos — the first time I used this in an anime/cosplay event is at Otaku Expo 2018. I used it again at Cosplay Carnival 2018.
One benefit of the camera is that its resolution is higher than the phone camera I have, plus I can attach an external flash in it, which is cool. I am thinking of having an external flash in the future.
I’ve seen a lot of people watermarking their photos; and I, for one, have my own tastes when it comes to watermarking.
I classify my photos in two:
- Can be watermarked — High-quality photos, precious photos
- Can’t be watermarked — Photos that came out of my phone, low-quality photos, blurry photos
I’ve watermarked the sample photo above because to me:
- It is a high-quality photo,
- It describes a situation at the area of SMX Manila
I’ve also watermarked this photo of Rithe as a judge because to me:
- It is a high-quality photo, and
- It is a rare photo. I mean I didn’t took this photo up-close, but with the camera’s ability to zoom this close from the stage right where I am, I know the value of the camera I am using.
This photo, to me, is important that I am watermarking this because:
- Ikemen po siya
- That ikemen smile
- This was taken from the back of the judges’ panel, which is still too far for some cameras to capture.
Now let’s talk about the photos that need no watermarks (according to me). This one does not need a watermark, because:
- It’s a distracting decoration.

Now sometimes I am guilty of doing these, but from now on I shall make it a commitment to stop adding decorations to photos that are not so important.
Notice the watermark? I like it. It stays there. But I have the option to:
- Adjust the opacity so that it won’t look so blunt, or
- Keep it as is to imply that I own the photo.
Your Canon camera also has this setting where you can include the author and copyright details in each photo (mine doesn’t since it is an older model).
Now that we are at the end of this post, I’d like to inform you that photos from Cosplay Carnival are up on Facebook. Unfortunately, I lost my video camcorder somewhere so there will be no video of Cosplay Carnival. That was a huge blow to me, since I also have precious footage from there. Still hoping to find it.
Moving on, I will be participating at a Fate/ photoshoot this Sunday, and I’ll get back to my phone to record a video log.
