Aniplus Asia has released its lineup of anime titles for its Spring 2021 broadcast. BACK ARROW continues its broadcast run on the channel as well.

Aniplus Asia continues to bring anime this Spring 2021 anime season, and just as with other releases from the Southeast Asian channel, I’ll be chiming in my thoughts in brief. Let’s go!

Vivy continues singing in hopes of one day achieving her goal of performing on the theme park’s main stage.

How will the encounter between these two A.I.s with such different missions change the course of the future?

The one-hundred-year journey of an A.I. songstress named Vivy starts now.

I’ve been seeing the name Atsumi Tanezaki these days – she has three roles this season, and one of it is Vivy. Looking at the trailer alone, I’m hyped as heck! Aside from Tanezaki, we have THE Jun Fukuyama here.

The question is, how long will this series be? Only one way to find out.

CESTVS -The Roman Fighter-

This is the story of a kind-hearted boy’s battle against his cruel fate.

If I understood this correctly, this adaptation of a manga series is about boxing in the Roman Empire. I can feel the shonen vibe in this one.

Kingdom (Season 3)

The third season is set after the successful Shanyang campaign, as varying sides continue to suffer in the face of war.

The Qin army is a step closer to unifying China. Meanwhile, Li Mu of Zhao takes advantage of the temporary truce with Qin to negotiate with the other states. Realizing it too late, Qin finds the armies from the 6 states at its doorstep…

Kingdom has been broadcast from 2012 to 2013, followed by a sequel from 2013 to 2014, and after quite a long time, the series returns for another season.

Welcome to the new world of Vanguard.

Third-year middle school student Yu-yu Kondo lives in Kanazawa city of the country of Kaga.

Yu-yu has the ability to read the heart of others and is troubled by the fact that he is unable to reject requests. Often getting caught up in his sister’s hobbies, Yu-yu could no longer take it and runs away from home. He is saved by Megumi Okura, who then invites him to a night amusement park called “Wonder Hill”, where her friends gather.

At the amusement park, Yu-yu meets Megumi, along with Zakusa Ishigame and Tomari Seto—members of “Team Blackout” who gather to play Vanguard every night.

Tonight, a serious fight with their team flag on the line will be held. Blackout’s Leader, Danji Momoyama, will fight against the mysterious powerhouse fighter, Tohya Ebata. The cardfight gradually transforms into a scene on Planet Cray before Yu-yu’s eyes.

This is how Yu-yu encounters Vanguard, and is drawn in by the appeal of the world and friends he has never seen before.

With character designs from CLAMP, and Aoi Shouta topbilling the voice cast, this really IS a new kind of Vanguard.

BACK ARROW continues to broadcast on the channel. I’ve read somewhere that the show’s picking up steam with its latest episode.

After causing huge trouble at the powerhouse volleyball team in his junior high school in Tokyo, Kimichika Haijima moves back to his hometown, Fukui. There, he is reunited with his childhood friend, Yuni Kuroba.

Kuroba possesses outstanding physical abilities but crumbles under pressure, while Haijima, with his overwhelming passion and talent for volleyball, often locks horns with those around him. While the two excel as a formidable duo, their relationship sours as they part ways after their final Prefectural tournament as middle school students. Despite that, they both enroll at Seiin High School, where they join the boys volleyball team.

Welcoming them to the team are the third-year pair between Oda, the 163cm-tall hot-blooded captain, and Aoki, the talented but sharp-tongued vice-captain, and second-year students, including Kanno, who has sun allergy, and Ookuma, a beginner to volleyball.

Many years have passed since humanity was driven to the brink of extinction by the sudden emergence of the unknown life forms Gadoll.

Those humans that survived now dwell in a 3000m-high mobile fortress Deca-dence built to protect themselves from the Gadoll threat.

Denizens of Deca-dence fall into two categories: Gears, warriors who fight the Gadoll daily, and Tankers, those without the skills to fight. One day, Natsume, a Tanker girl who dreams of becoming a Gear meets surly Kaburagi, an armor repairman of Deca-dence.

This chance meeting between the seemingly two opposites, the girl with a positive attitude who never gives up on her dreams and the realist who has given up on his, will eventually shake the future course of this world.

I understood that this is an apocalyptic steampunk show with a pinch of giant-slashing akin to Attack on Titan, but I have yet to get a grasp on what this show is.

I’ve seen the trailers, and I can say that the series keeps getting interesting over time. This time, the Fire Force goes places. I have confidence that those who are already watching the show will enjoy the second season.

My thoughts on ANIPLUS Asia’s Spring 2020 lineup

• Tatami-chan is Oshikiri’s mini anime project which stars Japanese national treasures Shiori Izawa, Satomi Arai, and Tomokazu Sugita.
• I am quite intrigued by Kakushigoto. It’s like Koji Kumeta drags Hiroshi Kamiya again – the last time I am made aware of this was “Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei,” though I have not yet watched the series in its entirety.
• I wish I can link the Pakatube Puritube video but I believe Cygames has removed it T_T. That should sum up my impression of Princess Connect! Re:Dive.
• Lastly, Tower of God is a milestone of its own – it’s the first time we saw a webtoon being adapted into anime. Crunchyroll and Aniplex have a hand on this series as well.
