I’ve had fun watching KING OF PERFORMAI the 7th tournament, especially with maimai DX and CHUNITHM. Yours truly hosted the MAXBEAT Philippines Watch Party at MX Gaming Grounds at the heart of Manila’s University Belt Sunday, March 1.
I was joined by fellow rhythm game players and Team MX colleagues Kurohime and Tenshi, and I had fun asking them about their experiences playing maimai and CHUNITHM respectively, their reactions to songs the players will compete against, and the new song charts that they will sightread.
At first, I describe this year’s maimai DX tournament as an upset as Yoshiki failed to secure another championship title. However, Takerun (said to be the oldest competitor in this year’s maimai roster) has been running to secure his second KOP game championship title, I can’t help but to appreciate his efforts. It doesn’t help that Yoshiki has recovered from injury.
As Yoshiki became emotional as he receives his runner-up trophy, so did I. I’m impressed that Takerun carried his Ongeki championship trophy from KOP 3rd with him — I now root for a CHUNITHM championship title for the guy. May they continue to grow strong.
Planning and hosting this Watch Party — especially as a first-timer who has just celebrated 1 year since first playing maimai DX — I have learned things that I share with my colleagues. I’m happy things fell into place. I’m thankful that I met good friends in maimai, and they backed me up when I need their support for this project.
I think I have several Reels to make out of the two-part stream we did at MX Gaming Grounds, and I hope to have those prepared soon.
