Today’s Photo — 23 October 2016

Marlo (left) and Carlo (right) Magtibay at the Animax Carnival Philippines 2016 taken last October 16 at SMX Manila. This was supposed to be a simple Instagram post, but since I have written a long narrative, I decided to post this as part of the “Photo/s of the Day” on keepsakes. The Magtibay twins Marlo and Carlo, along with Jan Michael Buensuceso (Jamibu), are the people behind the ZEN [Otaku Honbu]. As far as I remember, I got introduced to ZEN after reading through what people are talking about TV5’s AniMEGA Block. I think I was in high school when I joined in the ZEN forums, in which the twins serve as moderators. ...

Finally, a place where you can read official English-translated ranobe

The triad of legal anime- and manga- distribution websites has been completed with the launch of J-Novel Club There are legal gateways for reading manga and watching anime but I have yet to see a similar service for light novels (also called ranobe, raito-noberu, so on and so forth). Until now. What I’m going to share to you is as important as legit anime streaming/manga distribution sites. I would like to introduce you to J-Novel Club. ...

Animax Carnival Philippines 2016

The anime event of 2016. Period. I thought of posting a big photo collection from this event held last October 15 and 16 at SMX Manila, but this one’s so good that I might as well discuss my best moments from there. Animax’s Anime Lineup: These boards served as sources of information on Animax’s lineup, and as backdrop for cosplayers and photographers. One ticket, two days I’ve never expected something like this can happen in the country’s local anime convention scene: One ticket is good for two days (you’ll be hearing more and more of this phrase so bear with me for a moment). This seems too good to be true, but it was possible! Rather, they made this possible! I’d like to attribute this factor to Animax’s parent company Sony Pictures Entertainment’s generosity. ...

Europe’s Mainstream Animations

I list down some of Europe’s creations that went on to mainstream popularity Eponine posted a few photos on her Facebook that triggered my nostalgia as a kid who collects issues of kids’ magazines. Now that I thought of it, I read on series that are made in Europe during my childhood, and on this post I’ll list the series I knew, and my thoughts on each of them. ...

Today’s Photo — October 7, 2016

Well, what do you know: At a Rotary event in Marikina, I saw two cosplayers as soon as I enter the venue. Turns out they were invited by a Rotary Club for an event this month. Some of you knew that I’m now a member of the Rotary Club of Mutya ng Pasig (I got inducted at the end of September), and I was really thinking that I’m in a Oregairu situation (because anime is life). Maybe this could be the case for this picture, I may say.

Cosplay Mania 2016

The annual convention season has kicked off louder in the month of October as Cosplay Mania 2016 is held at SMX Manila. I did a mini-project here with my friends in the community, based on what cosplayer Kelly did — we asked cosplayers who they’re cosplaying and who are they on weekdays. I was accompanied by Allineus (who handled the recording with his trusty iPad) and Emile from Whatsageek (who is a very chill guy). ...

Loving Rainbow Garden Cosplay Festival

The Loving Rainbow Garden is just near Commonwealth Avenue, and if you think of it, it’s just near the Iglesia ni Cristo Central Temple — that is if you’re going to walk. I think commuting by car is a bit of a hassle, but that is just me speaking without experiencing. ...

Best of Anime 2016

[Left] Tanya Markova and [Right] cosplayer Yao on stage. You’ve already heard from us (or simply noticed before) that this is a co-located event of the Manila International Book Fair, that they have gathered a lot of community support, and that the organizers are trying to do their best to make it a great event so on and so forth, so let me tell you a few things that I’ve noticed for this year’s BoA when I went there on its first day: ...

#iBlog12 — September 16, 2016

Ken Chan talks about GMA Network’s latest online awareness campaign #HeartOverHate. Five years ago, I went to my first iBlog (the 7th Philippine Blogging Summit) at the Malcolm Theater of UP Diliman College of Law. A year after, I went on to speak in the perspective of a content creator, emphasizing the uniqueness of one’s content. Three years — and lots of t-shirts — later, I’m still here. I’ve officially made this a tradition of mine. ...
