2nd DLSU Communication Conference

I really waited for this day — and lack of sleep is no match for my renewed enthusiasm to come to one of my favorite refresher conferences. The 2nd DLSU Communication Conference has expanded further, featuring more new and recent trends in quad media. I’ll be sharing a few tidbits from the sessions that I listened to during this whole-day activity. In the morning plenary session, media pros such as Rappler’s Maria Ressa, indie filmmaker Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil, the Philippine Daily Inquirer’s John Nery, David Guerrero of BBDO Guerrero and ABS-CBN’s JR dela Cerna. Nery, whom I’ve been introduced first in the GMA Network broadcast of the PiliPinas Debates, did an experiment on Twitter prior to his talk, in which I got curious. ...

JPOP Anime Singing Contest 2016 Grand Finals — 23 July 2016

I used to juggle two events in one day, and luckily they’re in the same location, so I was able to satisfy myself. (The other event I went to is the 2016 Franchise Asia Philippines Expo at the SMX.) This event, which started at around 1:30PM, lists 15 finalists on the slate with four intermissions (from Doraemon and friends, Kawaii5, last year’s winner Maychell Hernandez and the Embassy of Japan’s No Plan Band respectively) in between. ...

Top: Inside the theater. Bottom Left: The facade of the Onstage Theater during the event. Bottom Right: The event banners. Yesterday, I was at the Onstage Theater at Greenbelt 1 for a benefit event called “The Gathering.” There are two reasons why I went: The organizer invited me personally, and Seishun Kakumei will perform there. Left: The judges (evaluators) Rina, Louise Betita and Cherry Boase. Center, Right: Photos of cover group Seishun Kakumei and acoustic duo Mavilon ...

Homura, on Haiku

Throwback: Homura, on Haiku “Hey, I miss this one!,” I said to myself when I went to my archives. For this week’s throwback, I’m going to share a post circa April 2011, and at that time, one of the best series that I’ve watched called Puella Magi Madoka Magica was airing. This is what I’ve thought Akemi Homura will write if she does a haiku about her relationship with protagonist Madoka Kaname. ...

Kami no Tsuki (Pale Moon, 2014)

“The road to hell is paved with good intentions,” but “The end doesn’t justify the means” Last night, I was at the Shang Cineplex for Eiga Sai: The Japanese Film Festival. This year has to be the most jam-packed yet (To which I say, “Congratulations!”) — I was supposed to watch “Flying Colors,” but the line’s so long that I fell in the next scheduled screening, which is Kami no Tsuki (Pale Moon, 2014). ...

Travel Madness Expo — 8 July 2016

Last February, I went to the Travel Tour Expo at the SMX Manila. This July, I went to see the 5th Travel Madness Expo at the same spot. I think that’s something. Here are the photos from the event earlier. Taiwan Tourism Bureau I was able to try out their simple dessert — shaved ice, sugar syrup, beans and condensed milk. It was delicious even if the ice had already melted minutes later. ...

Safety precautions while playing Pokémon Go

[Photo] A frame of the official Pokémon Go commercial released in September 2015 Today’s trend on social media — including Facebook — is Pokémon Go. It’s the new augmented reality mobile game that’s available to be played on smartphones. At present, it’s available in select countries like Australia, but some found a way to circumvent this barrier by sideloading the APK file, which I do not recommend because of the fear of having ads pop up in a split-second no thanks to Ghost Push. ...
