Challenging Anime's "Middlemen" on "Anime x Angas"

Once upon a time, I was invited to join a Discord server called “Anime x Angas,” who was at that time looking for guest panelists. Last Sunday, they figured out that they’ll be busy going to ESGS this weekend (I will also be there!), so they called for everyone who was available. I was about to hit the sack, but I figured why not join them for a discussion until I pass out (I did pass out). This episode of Anime x Angas deals with me challenging the middlemen of the anime industry, and trying to change the narrative on how we can support this industry. ...

RF Talk Podcast Presents: When Fanservice Goes Wrong

I co-hosted the recent Reimaru Files’ RF Talk Podcast about too much fanservice in conventions, what are suggested to be done to avoid public indecency, what has changed over time and what we can learn from a single tweet video that has spread all over the internet. I don’t know about the viral fella, but let me share the video in question (not safe for work, of course). Joining the podcast are cosplayers Tita Storm, Tita Rells and Ate Bianca. The podcast is long, but I hope you stay tuned until the end. This podcast episode is an insightful wake-up call for every one of us. ...

Cosplay Mania 2022 (or VTuber Mania, if you ask me)

I’m not yet tired. I’m brimming with passion, passion that was fueled by me going to Cosplay Mania 2022 last weekend. I spent the whole weekend being blessed with a lot of cosplay photos, and I have a rough estimate that 90% of it are VTuber cosplays, because yes, I’m covering the event for NewsDrop, and I’m looking forward to sharing relevant stuff there soon. Also, the event was covered in The Philippine STAR front page. By now I think I’m not the only one who has noticed this. ...

Desk Diary - August 7, 2022

Long time no see, everyone. If you haven’t caught up with me, I left Anime Corner last July due to differences in editorial direction. I have decided to pursue my interest in VTuber culture on another platform. Starting today, I am now part of Kawa Entertainment, writing content for its new initiative VTuber NewsDrop. That’s more or less the official statement, and I will not entertain any further questions. Allow me to use this space to write about my transition, as well as the stuff that happened to me at the sidelines. ...

Otasuke Cosplay Festival 2022 on July 30-31

We have been covering events at OtaCute in Manila for so long, so we’ve seen how this small venue grew up to become a hotspot for anime culture. In this month’s Otasuke Cosplay Festival, we have not just one but two venues which will cater to everything anime and cosplay. Aside from the LA Village venue which saw a lot of performances, OtaCute is set to debut its Wallstreet venue, opening the door for a wider experience. This new venue, which has been teased for so long, sports a long catwalk with lots of screens, giving a better viewing experience. ...
