Off with their heads: Desk Diary - February 02, 2021

Before January 2021 ends, we saw the boom that is GameStop - aside from that, we saw another discussion within the VTuber community unfolding. “Make content, don’t just tweet.” Hololive English’s Calliope Mori, during a Q&A stream, answered this question: “Do you have any tips for people who want to become VTubers?” Here’s my transcript of her answer: Make content. Do it. You know, I see a lot of young, aspiring VTubers that really want to do the VTuber thing, and I’m really excited for them. I want to see them succeed. I want to see them do their best. I see them on Twitter and I want them to do something. ...

Meme Stocks: Desk Diary - January 28, 2021

Man, this week had its highs and lows. Just yesterday, I was reeling away from the stress of handling simultaneous online events. Today, I was relieved of that stress and got myself back into shape. Also today, I learned of the term “meme stocks.” This, after investors at r/WallStreetBets (with its official Twitter Handle @wsbmod) rallied GameSpot’s stock and keeps holding it until now as we speak. GME stock price by TradingView The stock has blown up so much that I’ve been informed of controls in pushing for the said stock. Call it anything you want, but I understood that this is a story of the people - individuals, more so gamers (I’m confident I got this one right) - are fighting the establishment. ...

Too old to program?: Desk Diary - January 23, 2021

I’m getting too stressed with work these days that I want to distract myself from it. I’ll get back to work tasks once I’m satisfied. For this break, I decided to redo my side project anicredits, which is a tool I may find useful for writers/bloggers/what not who want to properly add copyright text to authorized images, etc. Here’s a piece from long time ago. detailing why I did it The initial site was built using Angular.js 1.3.6 and UIKit, both of which I have cherished so much. ...

Domo, Arigathanks.: Desk Diary - January 16, 2021

Apparently this is my first Desk Diary of the year. I dedicate this post to one person who keeps doing what he does best: Being bullied by Interviewing VTubers. They call him Kevin, most got used to calling him Domo though. This guy helped elevate the best Virtual YouTubers outside of major agencies through his interviews. When he starts streaming, I was ready to clip segments as much as I can. ...

keepsakes. in 2020: Desk Diary - December 23, 2020

What. A. Year. I started the year with hopes and dreams that I can go to Iloilo or La Union, only to end up stuck in one place and working my ass off. This is definitely not the situation I wanted to be. Imagine having time for friends and hobbies in person, or creating more projects - then all of a sudden, you have no place to go anymore. Can we go back in time to avoid COVID-19, the CCP Virus, altogether? ...

The Power of Community: Desk Diary - December 16, 2020

I kept scrolling on my news feed only to stumble upon an interview with Singaporean cosplayer Rea Kami on The Royal Singapore. I was halfway through it when I stopped and wrote another Desk Diary. It was not until recently that I learned of Rea as an outspoken person, and this interview she had is compelling. Best of all, she gives quite good laughs. To summarize, in her days in school, she said “she was just very slow when it came to social situations.” She then pulls up this Japanese phrase: 空気読よめない. Kuuki yomenai. KY. Can’t read the air. Can’t read the atmosphere. ...

Burnout: Desk Diary - November 28, 2020

Thank you for taking time to read this. I promise this will be quick. This past week, I went on like how Bruno Mars sang it: “Today I don’t feel like doing anything.” Just replace “today” with “this week.” Two weeks of work left my soul crashed, and find myself wanting to just stay in a corner and watch on YouTube. I really don’t felt like doing work tasks. I assume it’s because I haven’t got any time to do what I love. I haven’t figured out how to move forward with producing podcasts at the moment, I’m producing videos for now. ...

Dual Monitors, SketchUp: Desk Diary - November 26, 2020

If you’re in the field of multimedia, programming or simply a multitasker, having only a single monitor is considered a sin - at least for me. I got used to having two monitors even in the office, which is why it’s hard not to use another monitor to edit. Our office got this small, USB-powered AOC LED monitor of which I believe has been phased out in the country as far as Google tells me. ...

Ulysses: Desk Diary - November 15, 2020

Photo from the NASA Earth Observatory These past two weeks are unusual… Storm after storm, rain after rain, the top part of the country gets drenched so bad that even the mountains and dams can’t handle the water and start flowing to the metro again. They said this is a repeat of Ondoy, but GMA News’ Meteorologist Nathaniel Cruz gave a better explanation about this: Ondoy went in slow, while Ulysses succeeded other storms. ...

Zoom Hell: Desk Diary - November 09, 2020

We do not believe such a thing like purgatory exists, only heaven and hell. Right now, I’m writing from another desk, far away from the usual. Sure, the internet’s fast and all, but what I’ve been doing all day is to finish a backlog that seemed to be impossible. I’ve never felt a hellish moment like this. I really felt it when Sadvertising pops up a strip (or a series of strips) which takes pages out of the advertising industry. While I don’t belong to the same industry as theirs, I really felt that my work has been cursed. ...
