LittleBits, Drones and Innovation at Manila Mini Maker Faire 2017

June 11, 2017 — Mind Museum at BGC Taguig I passed by the Mind Museum at the BGC to check out the Manila Mini Maker Faire. This weekend event boasts of various exhibits about creativity and just plainly making things in general. Among the photos in this gallery include: A different way to present and package cupcakes all in one— I’ve been told that this student project has been presented to entreps in Iligan city, and so I mentioned that the Department of Science and Technology has its packaging division that they might want to check out. I’m positive for it, if I say so myself. A demo of LittleBits and how it works— while it’s not necessarily in the internet-of-things landscape, it shows the bare basics of how kids can make tech stuff. SkyEye Drone Racing Series— while I was only able to see just one round due to time constraints, I’m already in daydream mode on how this should be broadcast all over the local TV or the internet. I also did a short video montage in the end of this post. See you in the next events! ...

Seiyuu fans gather in Maginhawa. Here’s how it went.

It was a one hot Sunday in Quezon City when I visited the other end of Maginhawa St. in Quezon City. In Quezon City, if you want to pig out, you take note of this area, where a lot of specialty restaurants popped out, making it among the destinations for foodies. Just a long walk away from the UP Diliman Campus is the Red Monster Shop + Cafe. I’ve heard of Red Monster in conventions before as a merchandiser, but it’s really great that they have their own physical shop as well — many themed fan-gathering events are held on this space, some of which are related to either LoveLive! or Yuri!!! on Ice. Heck, they even have an upcoming Osomatsu-san themed cafe there. ...

Ikebana in Manila

Hi everyone! This week’s photo set is all about Ikebanas. You know, those intricate flower arrangements that help beautify a living space. There was this exhibit by the Ikebana International Manila Chapter 108 in commemoration of its golden year of establishment. The exhibit was held at the Glorietta’s Palm Drive Activity Center (the more modest one) from March 10 to 12, and while I missed out on a lot, below are jut a few snaps from the said area. ...

Gunpla Expo Philippines 2017

Brace yourselves for lots of photos from the recently-held Gunpla Expo Philippines 2017 held at the Main Mall Atrium of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay. Gunpla this, Gunpla that, magsawa po kayo sa mga Gunpla. This expo (which did gain international attention) is probably a thank-you from our guys in Tokyo for having a lively Gunpla scene (before this, we already have qualifiers for the Gunpla Builders World Cup). ...

PBNet SEO 101 Seminar

The members of the Philippine Bloggers’ Network (PBNet), having a post-event group pic. Content is king, yes, but you still need to talk to both humans and search engines to attract. Honestly, I’m in a school of thought that thinks SEO is no longer relevant and social media is the next big thing to gain attention. Over time, I realized I was wrong. At first, writing to search engines (search engine optimization, SEO) is like pondering to search engines because they have their own set of rules, whereas writing to humans (which is what I do at this very moment) has no rules and almost no boundaries. ...

Welcome to Digongland

I thank myself for remembering that there’s a special exhibit at the SM Megamall ART Center yesterday — and it so happens that it’s an exhibition by a supporter of President Duterte. It’s called “Adventures in Digongland,” featuring artworks not just related to President Duterte, but also to current events. The artworks are bizaare and quirky, but the descriptions posted beside these artworks are funny and witty. ...

Ozine Fest Anime Figure Special 2016

The first day of the Ozine Fest Anime Figure Special 2016 held at the Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City last December 26 to 27 — both weekdays — felt like the usual Saturday and Sunday; this despite the bad weather condition in the morning. Nevertheless, I was able to get a lot of photos than I expected — probably more than what I had at other major events. ...

INC Live: “Masaya sa Iglesia”

December 24, 2016 — World Trade Center Metro Manila The Christian Family Organizations of the Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ — of which yours truly is a proud member) organized the INC Live (Livelihood, Interaction, Values and Entertainment) at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay last December 23–24, 2016. I was able to catch up on the second day to meet my Cosplayer friends, most of them I only interact with online. ...

Today’s Photo — November 27, 2016

This is the only photo I got inside the ICITE Building at Eastwood City as Toei Animation Philippines celebrates its 30th year anniversary with a cosplay competition yesterday, November 26th. Unlike the last one held five years ago — a full Cosplay float parade, grand activity at the Eastwood City’s Central Park — this one was so simple. This is part of the celebration of Animahenasyon10 — the Philippine Animation Festival — held annually by the Animation Council of the Philippines (in which the company I’m with is part of this year’s team). ...

Animax Carnival Philippines 2016

The anime event of 2016. Period. I thought of posting a big photo collection from this event held last October 15 and 16 at SMX Manila, but this one’s so good that I might as well discuss my best moments from there. Animax’s Anime Lineup: These boards served as sources of information on Animax’s lineup, and as backdrop for cosplayers and photographers. One ticket, two days I’ve never expected something like this can happen in the country’s local anime convention scene: One ticket is good for two days (you’ll be hearing more and more of this phrase so bear with me for a moment). This seems too good to be true, but it was possible! Rather, they made this possible! I’d like to attribute this factor to Animax’s parent company Sony Pictures Entertainment’s generosity. ...
