Desk Diary: October 6, 2024

I started writing this at 10pm on the date mentioned, and I hope to write a lot of good stories from this Desk Diary before (a) doze off or (b) I forget stuff. I have no regrets taking more time off the NewsDrop desk (or anything, really, at least for a single day) to meet friends at Cosplay Mania 2024. For once, I asked myself to stop being bothered by the stuff happening on my news feed, meet familiar and new faces, and touch grass. I had several goals in mind: ...

Desk Diary: September 10, 2024

For the past few years, this website (as well as its social media handles) has been a witness to various events in the Philippines’ pop culture circuit. Most of you have seen me advocate for several events like the World Cosplay Summit or the local idol culture. I have now reached a point where my energy and resources can no longer compensate for going to several places in a single day. I’ve spent my life in the events industry so much that I built and broke bridges. ...

Pinoy Otaku Festival 2023 on May 19-21

Pinoy Otaku Festival returns this year—and so I return to Supernova(liches) to moderate a panel discussion. This annual event starts again this year, and this edition will focus on Environmental Advocacy. Shizen, a Japanese word describing (human) nature, is the theme for this year’s edition, focusing on the ways fans like us can do to give back to nature. Organizer Red Cloud Interactive will host a series of activities including a Low-Cost Cosplay Competition which will challenge the talent and resourcefulness of participating cosplayers. In addition, staple activities such as Cosplay Championship League, Your Cosplay Sounds Familiar, Karaoke Battle Royale, and Chibi Cosplay Show will also be held during the weekend. ...

Online Shopping Experiences: From Groceries to Non-Food Items Delivery

Long time no post! Prior to the release of Podcast #98 this Friday (I’m sure I’m going to post the show notes here late), I’ve done my online shopping as well, getting my groceries and some non-food items in one sitting. In fact, due to the virus scare (running for 2 years now), I rarely go out. When I go out of the building, I just make sure I don’t go beyond the 3-kilometer radius. That said, I do my grocery shopping online. ...

King of Anime Groups, Otaku Rankings and Sustainable Otaku Goals

Before I got home from Cosplay Mini Matsuri Day 1, I took a photo of these bikes. Just before the end of the year 2021, we’ve seen specific posts being shared on Facebook. These posts contain the following information, which I will share to you guys outside the Philippines: King of Anime Groups This first copypasta I’m going to share was shared around two years ago, I believe. The copypasta is about a boastful “King of Anime Groups” who warned his “poor innocent” fellow to move it. ...

The Kiryu Coco Legacy on the Podcast

We are at a loss - Kiryu Coco has decided to graduate on her own terms. We cannot do anything about it but to cope. In a once-in-a-blue-moon scenario, I got my good friends Madekuji-san (who lend his hand in building the Cocodex), Eighty and Ehee (from the Virtually Talking podcast) to recap Kiryu Coco’s legacy. We got around two hours of discussions celebrating Kiryu Coco’s legacy. DigiKomi is a different beast

You’ve seen me visit virtual Japan, virtual USA and virtual Indonesia - now I’m going to share my experiences in virtual Germany, where DigiKomi, the online edition of the annual Dokomi convention is. Aside from Discord and Twitch, DigiKomi has its own virtual platform provided by MixUp. Imagine this: You are a rounded square. All of you inside the virtual convention floor are rounded squares. If the camera’s on, we can see you. This is a perfect opportunity for VTubers to introduce themselves. ...

Sadvertising, you will be missed.

Tonight is a sad one. Bad things are happening one by one tonight. I learned about the passing of one of my favorite komikeros, Sadvertising, just tonight. I am definitely at a loss. I’m in no mood to write about something in detail, so I’ll leave you with this. View this post on Instagram Sadvertising left us his Facebook and Instagram, sharing experiences from the advertising industry. ...

keepsakes. in 2020: Desk Diary - December 23, 2020

What. A. Year. I started the year with hopes and dreams that I can go to Iloilo or La Union, only to end up stuck in one place and working my ass off. This is definitely not the situation I wanted to be. Imagine having time for friends and hobbies in person, or creating more projects - then all of a sudden, you have no place to go anymore. Can we go back in time to avoid COVID-19, the CCP Virus, altogether? ...

How I created my first pre-recorded panel discussion for KuroCon vol. 2

Last September 27, I have presented my first international panel - at KuroCon Online volume 2. Although this is pre-recorded, this panel opened Day 2 of the online event which gathered hundreds of participants on Discord and Twitch. I took chance of proposing a topic in light of the recent KissAnime shutdown, and I’m happy that this has been approved. ...
