Remembering Restaurant 9501

Team Eurika Ai, then Team XO, during a press conference held at Restaurant 9501 as part of World Cosplay Summit Philippines in 2014. [Deremoe Archive] After all that has been said and done, we can’t deny that ABS-CBN as an institution has been home to some experiences of mine. ...

Singapore keepsakes 2018 in retrospect

Hi guys! Time for another blog. Just to let you know, we pulled off an online Induction and Turnover Ceremony in just a week, and there are lessons in doing so. Now, I take my body off and look at my Google Photo albums. I have backups of my past travels from Baguio, Cebu and Singapore there. Now that it is expected that travel will be much more costly in the New Normal, I would like to take the time to reminisce my travels prior to the start of the pandemic. ...

Marble, Diecast Racing is now my new favorite quarantine pastime

John Oliver rekindled my fascination with Jelle’s Marble Runs after he announced that his show Last Week Tonight will sponsor this year’s Marble League. I got so excited with the opening of the 2020 Marble League that I waited until it gets premiered before I sleep - at around 4 in the morning. ...

Having a thorough haircut in the New Normal 2020

After three months, finally, I got a haircut. As barbershops are allowed to operate again during the general community quarantine (GCQ) period, my two-inch hair will finally be cut. The frustration of resting and feeling your hair at your nape, as well as that humid feeling in your head, finally comes to a halt. It was quite costly though, as I can’t just pick a preferred barber to go to - there’s only two in my area at the moment, and I don’t want to walk further. ...

10 Years of YouTubing and what I am still learning so far

It’s been 10 years since I opened my current YouTube channel. Prior to this, I was learning how YouTube works, and during the time when LimeWire was the thing, I downloaded quite a number of stuff, some of which I test upload to my first YouTube account. The result: Auto-banned. So, I made another one. This is it. Over the past ten years, I’ve uploaded quite a variety of videos: ...

Sign Language is NOT Tiktok (An interview)

Last week, we saw a post on Facebook compiling the posts of people who either mistook sign language in-sets on local newscasts as something similar to the social app Tiktok. This did not go well with the Deaf community. This did not also go well with the Philippine National Association of Sign Language Interpreters (PNASLI). Interpreters seek awareness after online ‘mockery’ of sign language insets MANILA - An organization of sign language interpreters has asked the public to be more aware of their work and the Deaf community after some netizens questions the use of insets during television newscasts. ...

Dessert Museum's aesthetic taught me a thing or two in life

Hi guys! I’ll be sharing photos from my visit at The Dessert Museum last year. I checked the EXIF details and it’s dated one year ago from the time I have posted this, so it’s just right to share these with you, especially that we’re at a critical time of our lives. As with most of my visits, I came in alone (but not lonely). I got a discounted pass here as the Museum is changing one of its rooms to a different theme. ...

3 Blogging Lessons I learned over the years

Photo by Brian Durano My first blog post was dated 2007. I remember I was in Grade 6. At that time, Webs.com existed as FreeWebs, and our class section has this online space complete with a chatroom too. If I remember it correctly, the site was seen by the school admin and was advised to be taken down, but I might be wrong on the latter part. At that time, there were no privacy issues. ...

Your idol has ignored you. What do you do?

Is it worth it to desperately be with your idols? A photo of this writer captured at the historical Kamuning Bakery and Cafe in Quezon City, just a few months before it got burned and rebuilt again. (Captured by Nestor Domingo Jr.) There are moments that are still fresh in my mind, such as the time when I: was like 7 or whatever years old and am alone in the house crying for mama, or that time when I executed nothing for the school paper after taking the helm despite planning for it; or not wanting to finish high school because I just don’t feel going — instead, I spend my time in the internet cafe doing stuff; but even so, I still have the memory of meeting my inspirations — my idols — in person. It’s as fresh as the fish sold in the market at 3:00 am. ...

Take that opportunity with no regrets.

This draft was actually written a year ago. This was me reluctantly deciding if I’m going for my first overseas trip or not. A year after this, I ticked off one thing in my bucket list. Allow me to share the draft prior to the release of “The First and Last Journey” this Monday, 7pm Manila time on Facebook and YouTube. I am looking at my Facebook feed, and I see some of my friends go to other places, with their smiling faces; and I can’t help but feel so jealous. ...
