A tribute to Hana Chan (2001–2017)

In a brief span of time, she lived a great life. She will be missed. Nice. Approachable. Sweet. Kind. Innocent. These are how friends of Zhanely Neilsen Chan, known as Hana by her peers, described her during her wake last Wednesday, November 1. Hana, who was supposed to celebrate her 16th birthday this November 17, passed away on October 28 due to Japanese encephalitis. In a brief span of time she spent with the metro’s cosplay community, she got acquainted with many people — including the friends of yours truly. (The testimonials are edited for brevity.) ...

What is @fildub?

I asked @fildub 3 questions - Obviously, there were follow-ups. Mga kapatid at ka fildub, ‘wag kalimutan ang Voltron on TV5 mamayang 5:45PM! pic.twitter.com/Qx53MwduZc — TV5 (@TV5manila) January 31, 2017 It all started with a tweet: When TV5 AniMEGA referred to our subject in one of their tweets, I knew I had to ask questions. Hi everyone! While I’m away from the keyboard at the moment, let me tell you about this project called @fildub, which has gradually made a quaint community on Twitter — and eventually, it got noticed by a major TV network’s anime block (let’s just say that the ones who handle the block’s social media handles are very cool because they know what’s up in the anime-viewing community and how to approach it). ...

I saw FLOW, and here’s what we’ve talked about

Hi, everyone. To be honest, I wasn’t able to pick a better title for this post, but let me tell you that yours truly were among the ones who are granted by Otakuzine Anime Magazine to do an interview with Japanese band FLOW during Ozine Fest 2016’s first day. Let’s get to the questions that the media have asked FLOW before they met their fans on this quick post. This is just a quick gist, so don’t expect much. ...

A short conversation with “Pepeng Chaika”

(Originally published on Deremoe on October 9, 2014.) We got interested with this Facebook page that also contributed to raising the issue of the “No Ticket, No Entry” policy that we have talked about weeks ago, and it goes by the name of JejeCostplayer PH. I was able to talk to the main guy behind it, Pepeng Chaika, a week before Best of Anime 2014. I was supposed to post the transcript verbatim but I decided to let the whole world know that this guy exists. ...

Vampy Bit Me on pictorials, food, and her second visit to the Philippines

During the last days of Deremoe, we were given a chance to be a media partner for the Asia Pop Comicon Manila 2015. They held a press conference at Salon de Ning inside The Peninsula Manila last September 15th, and I was able to attend it. We are given the opportunity to talk with Linda Le (aka Vampy Bit Me) during the Asia Pop Comic Con Manila 2015’s press conference at The Peninsula’s Salon de Ning, and the conversation that we had along with other fellow media is interesting. ...

How was it to be a Dubbing Director?

[Screengrab from The Voicemaster on YouTube] Aside from having a short chat with Belldandy, I was able to talk with a name in the Anime localization industry — Hero TV’s Dubbing Director Pinky Rebucas. Pinky has been in the voice acting industry since 1998, and her voice has been in a lot of series. I was supposed to ask this while they were on stage but unfortunately due to time constraints they had to cut the interaction segment out of the segment. ...

How’s the ‘Voltron Girl’ now?

Image source: http://fb.me/voltronofficial She’s been in numerous events before, when I was still starting to get a grasp of the Otaku culture. She’s been featured in Gizmodo and Kotaku. She even has a cameo. She’s Ashley Misaki before we saw Ashley Misaki. Her name is Belldandy Grimarez. She’s been dubbed the ‘Voltron girl’ for one reason and one reason alone. Nowadays, you won’t see her doing the usual Voltron girl skit, but when I got the chance to chat with her after the Bolen Lareza Chibi Cosplay competition, even though I forgot what she’s notable for, I took it. ...

John Vincent Estapon, one of the first delegates of the Philippines to the World Cosplay Summit

Vincent, on his Cloud Strife Cosplay. Courtesy of Kimipyon Photography The first World Cosplay Summit Philippines was a sight in our eyes, we even tracked the technicalities of it in our opinion posts a long time ago; but that doesn’t mean we’re going to stop there, as we have set our spotlight on our guy from the Philippine delegation. ...
