Aniplus announces Jan-Mar 2019 Simulcasts

Four titles are added to kick-off the new year

If you have seen my C3 AFA Singapore travelogue, chances are you saw my purchase of THE iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Theater eyeglass wiper for a few seconds.

That was at the Aniplus booth, and it’s great to get back in touch with them — especially that I got introduced to them during the KanColle the Movie Screening.

Now that it’s 2019, it’s time for them to announce their new simulcasts. (Airing times are in GMT+8 Manila/Singapore)

B-PROJECT -Zeccho*Emotion-

Starts January 12 — New Episode Fridays 12:30am / Encore Broadcast Saturday 8:30pm

“The Curtain Raises for B-PROJECT’s Next Stage!”

Tsubasa Sumisora works as an A&R for major record company Gandala Music. Together with B-PROJECT, she has beaten the odds to reach the JAPAN Dome Live show! What awaits Tsubasa, Kitakore, KiLLER KiNG, THRIVE and MooNs?

After taking a closer look at this, I don’t know how to explain this mixed-media franchise from MAGES (formerly 5pb Inc., home to Animelo Summer Live): Should I talk about the stellar cast or the fact that this is a group of virtual idols produced by THE T.M. Revolution (HOT LIMIT)?

I‘m not aware of female fans of this series in my circle of friends, but if you can chime in your thoughts, that will be deeply appreciated — because I’m on the other side of the spectrum, so to speak.

The Promised Neverland

Starts January 11 at 1:40am — New Episode Fridays 1:25am / Encore Broadcast Friday 11pm

“A Life-or-Death Escape to Freedom Begins”

Grace Field House is a seemingly ordinary orphanage where Emma, Norman and Rey live. Their pleasant days comes to halt when they know the harrowing truth that the children there are raised as meat.

This is the #2 most anticipated title for the season, adapted from a popular Weekly Shonen Jump manga serializing since 2016. This was also a featured anime series at C3 AFA Singapore 2018 with one of the cast members Sumire “Moroho” Morohoshi gracing the Day Stage.

This feels like déjà vu to me — one time last year, I was reading a story about St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Burlington, Virgina on BuzzFeed News — HOLD IT RIGHT THERE JAY THIS IS DIFFERENT, THE KIDS ARE BEING TURNED TO MEAT IN THIS SERIES SO STOP THAT POLITICALLY CORRECT BULLCRAP YOU WANT TO SPEW BECAUSE THIS IS DIFFERENT.

Ok I get your point. Inhale. Exhale.

Aside from Moroho, we have here Maaya Uchida(-taso) and Mariya Ise. That. Right there. Is a stellar cast. It does state in this video that it’s the “Forbidden anime adaptation.” We expect chills over this. The PETA vegans can also use this as propaganda if they try, which will tick off the series creator, because again, that’s not their intention.

Go watch this with me, I’m scared.

Kemono Friends 2

Starts January 8 — New Episode Tuesdays 2:35am / Encore Broadcast Tuesday 11pm

“A New Story of Japari Park Begins!”

The Animal Girls of Kemono Friends are back for an all-new season. Embark on a fun-filled adventure in Japari Park!!

Alright guys — with all of the thingamajig that has happened last year (it’s a fact and I have to say it), it’s time to watch a re-telling of our favorite sleeper hit.

Listening to the music in the trailer felt that I need to get used to this re-telling; but hey, if they get back to us with a story that we can love, why not?

Just a note, they’re taking this re-telling seriously.

The Rising of the Shield Hero

One-hour Premiere Episode airs January 9 at 11pm — New Episode Thursdays 6pm / Encore Broadcast Saturdays 5:30pm and Sundays 11pm

“Do not trust anyone. Everything is an enemy.”

Based on the popular fantasy novel by Aneko Yusagi, with over 3.3 million copies sold, comes the long-awaited anime adaptation!

Through a chanced encounter with a book at the library, ordinary university student Naofumi Iwatani is summoned to another world, where the legend of the four Legendary Heroes of Sword, Sphere, Bow and Shield presides. As the destined Shield Hero, he must overcome all odds and go up against the chaos-bringer known as the “Waves”.

The latest addition to the Aniplus simulcasts this season is yet another reunion of Kaito Ishikawa and Asami Seto, fresh from AnimeAnime’s best anime of Fall 2018, “Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai.”

Unlike the witty quips between Sakuta and Mai where Mai is on equal footing (?), I see that this series has some sort of Master-Servant relationship, with the Shield Hero being the Master and the demi-human Raphtalia as the Servant.

Also, Seto-san used her much cuter voice here. Don’t expect quips, expect high-pitched moe voices, I guess?
