Team Weapon and Mask Destruction from Davao City to represent the Philippines in this year’s friendship event

Among the major activities in the recently-held Otakufest 2019 at SM Seaside City Cebu is the National Finals for Pop Culture Hiroshima (PCH) Philippines held last Sunday, February 24.

According to the tournament’s Facebook page, PCH is an annual Japanese pop culture convention held in Hiroshima City which features cosplay, idols, guest voice actors, independent/fan artists, and illustrators as well as an anime song (anison) singing competition.

This year, PCH is set to be held on the weekend of April 13 and 14.

PCH has sent its invitation to the Philippines through Ambox Events to send our representatives for the event. They will be joined by selected pairs from Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Korea, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan, USA and Russia.

The winning team will be the Philippines’ ambassador to Pop Culture Hiroshima, and is set to raise the flag of the Philippines and its cosplay community as role models in the said event.

Out of the five competing pairs from Visayas and Mindanao regions, Team Weapon and Mask Destruction from Davao City bagged the right to represent the country after they set off a nostalgic effect performing as Dark Mousy and Krad from the series D.N.Angel.

The series has aired on two terrestrial channels in the Philippines — QTV in 2006 and TV5 in 2009. Once the series’ opening theme “Byakuya: True Light” played, the team got everyone’s attention. This song is Shunichi Miyamoto’s debut single as an artist.
