Loaded Weekend Coming Up

The planets aligned and agreed to have 2 VTuber events at the same weekend. Here’s what I’m going to do on the weekend of August 15-16: ONLive happens Saturday, which means I will host another panel discussion for VTuber NewsDrop. (The schedule’s at 12 noon so consider this a power lunch.) The presentation is still being worked upon in coordination with the organizers. Oshi Con is also happening but for 2 days, August 15 and 16. ...

Went to a Wrestling Match after a long time

I definitely miss watching elements at play — the wrestlers bringing in the action, and the fans (especially the heckler’s row) who believe in the vision of Pinoy Wrestling, so much that they spent time and cash to be there, surrounding the wrestling square. If there’s a good advantage that the venue has, they have projectors from atop and on one side that add spice to the whole aura of the show. It was colorful, to say the least. ...

So, about that incident Super Macaroni Salad had at Okada...

I had a brief conversation at the sidelines of TOYCON’s Summer Prelude at Okada Sunday, April 12. I wasn’t supposed to go because of that one theft incident involving a guest Japanese ensemble Super Macaroni Salad, but I’m glad I did nonetheless. (Photos on Facebook) Some of you know I staff for TOYCON most of the time, including the one insider I spoke to who told me what the event did after SMS member Tenten’s iPhone was stolen during their performance (It was not clear to me how exactly it got stolen, and I didn’t ask further). ...

Miku Expo Manila 2025

My first introduction to VOCALOID was a long time ago — I can’t remember exactly when, but I remember listening to Yellow. That kz(livetune) song s a core memory for me, so much that I joined a Pikarmy song cover to bade Pikamee Amano farewell (thanks Rentikoy)). I also recall reading commentary on the first Miku Expo in Indonesia through Ahotaku (who, through his posts, introduced me to J-pop culture in Indonesia). ...

No to Gambling Brands inside Pop Culture Events

I am about to return to my usual business after spending 4 days outside: First was the three-day Philippine Game Show in Taguig, second was the long-awaited Miku Expo Manila 2025, and lastly the three two-day rally at Luneta. We talk about the PGS’ debut first. I’ve yet to gather all the stuff that have happened during the three-day smorgasbord of games, cosplay, and J-pop, but there’s an elephant in the room which needs to be addressed: There was a gambling brand facing the stage area. I do not know why they’ve been placed there, I don’t know why it’s there, but I am made aware of who put them there. ...

SetsuAni lured me into watching the latest Demon Slayer movie before everyone else

Those who have followed the manga prior to the film have seen how it’s adapted, while those who are new to the popular anime franchise were immersed into the series’ universe on the spot. A handful of scenes were a critical hit with the audience, and some of them have become emotional watching things unfold in front of their eyes. —Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Kept Fans, Moviegoers Glued to their Seats (August 19, 2025)

Bushiroad Expo Manila 2025 held alongside Anisama Manila leg

Fans of Bushiroad’s mixed-media projects gather at the Quantum Skyview area of Gateway Mall 2 in Quezon City on the weekend of June 7-8, 2025 for this year’s Manila leg of Bushiroad Expo. Last year, we saw voice actress Rin Tateishi and Cardfight!! Vanguard commentator DifferentFight at Ayala Malls Trinoma. It’s understood that this year’s Expo was set up alongside the Manila leg of the Anisama World concert tour wherein Bushiroad star Ave Mujica performs songs alongside FLOW, nobodyknows+, ASH DA HERO, Toshiya Miyata, Hiroshi Kitadani, Mayu Maeshima, and MindaRyn. ...

National Rally for Peace (January 13, 2025)

I have yet to unload the photos I captured from last week’s National Rally for Peace organized by the Iglesia Ni Cristo at the Quirino Grandstand. It’s not the first time I spent time with the brethren at such a large gathering, but this one is unlike the last one I attended. This post covers the early hours of the morning of January 13 all the way until the Rally concludes and everyone goes home. This event was already broadcast to the media, so I’ll share more of my experience instead. ...

TOYCON 2024 Interviews now up

I did a series of interviews at TOYCON 2024 (with special thanks to Ambox Events) featuring guests from Japan and the local idol scene. First on the video above is Ai Negishi, who may be familiar with most idol fans twice my age as the leader of girl group Passpo. (I was more familiar with her as part of D4DJ’s Merm4id member Dalia Matsuyama). ...

Haruhikage was played* at Bushiroad Expo 2024 Manila

One account I follow nowadays is this page called “Hey DJ” which is related to the D4DJ franchise. There, they don’t just post D4DJ memes and stuff, they also cover other titles such as BanG Dream! and recently Girls Band Cry. As far as I can recall, that’s where I learned more about one of those moments which led me to today’s post. I got spoilers for BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!!, and you’ve been warned. ...
