A fun weekend at the Pinoy Otaku Festival 2017

Last weekend, I went to another (sorta) out-of-town visit and checked out the Pinoy Otaku Festival at the Ayala Malls Fairview Terraces in Quezon City. I’ve experienced many two-hour trips to Bulacan, to Alabang, to SMX Manila and other faraway places; and I’m pretty sure I’m getting used to these kinds of trips (I hope). Fairview Terraces is the Ayala Mall for the people residing in the Novaliches area. I had to speak this out: In just a few walks away you’re either at SM City Fairview or Robinsons Novaliches. I also think these three malls have a hierarchy of target markets, but that’s another story altogether. ...

What happens when the newest Japanese foodcourt gets its own cosplay event?

Sundays are very hot. No exceptions. But if you imagine yourself at the newest Japanese food court, eating a big bowl of ramen and talking among your friends, it feels OK. I went to Victory Food Market’s Yokocho Japanese Food Court not just to have a quick food trip but to check up on the venue’s first otaku event, Nihonfest 2017. Yokocho is located at the 4th level, and is a long walk away from the LRT Baclaran station, just facing the Redemptorist Church compound. Just established this year, they have a gradual flow of visitors, according to one staff I spoke to. ...

Ikebana in Manila

Hi everyone! This week’s photo set is all about Ikebanas. You know, those intricate flower arrangements that help beautify a living space. There was this exhibit by the Ikebana International Manila Chapter 108 in commemoration of its golden year of establishment. The exhibit was held at the Glorietta’s Palm Drive Activity Center (the more modest one) from March 10 to 12, and while I missed out on a lot, below are jut a few snaps from the said area. ...

Gunpla Expo Philippines 2017

Brace yourselves for lots of photos from the recently-held Gunpla Expo Philippines 2017 held at the Main Mall Atrium of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay. Gunpla this, Gunpla that, magsawa po kayo sa mga Gunpla. This expo (which did gain international attention) is probably a thank-you from our guys in Tokyo for having a lively Gunpla scene (before this, we already have qualifiers for the Gunpla Builders World Cup). ...

PBNet SEO 101 Seminar

The members of the Philippine Bloggers’ Network (PBNet), having a post-event group pic. Content is king, yes, but you still need to talk to both humans and search engines to attract. Honestly, I’m in a school of thought that thinks SEO is no longer relevant and social media is the next big thing to gain attention. Over time, I realized I was wrong. At first, writing to search engines (search engine optimization, SEO) is like pondering to search engines because they have their own set of rules, whereas writing to humans (which is what I do at this very moment) has no rules and almost no boundaries. ...

Photos from Otaku Expo 2017

Kicking off Otakuzine Anime Magazine’s (Ozine) events for 2017 is the annual Otaku Expo that’s held at the Megatrade Halls 2 and 3 of SM Megamall in the weekend of February 4 to 5. I checked out the first day, and here’s a briefer for everyone. I have a brief yet important info for everyone observing the local manga industry: I was informed by the one who’s manning the PSICOM booth at the Expo that the publisher stopped printing copies of Filipino editions of the Attack on Titan and Fairy Tail manga licensed from Kodansha since November 2016. ...

Hanging out with the ones at the Hecklers’ Row

I rested my camera over the ropes, and just when the timer counts to zero, the camera fell down, resulting in what might be a piece of art. Then again, art is subjective. The first event of the Philippine Wrestling Revolution that I’ve attended was last year at the iAcademy Auditorium, and it was a blast. I kept telling myself to go to another PWR event, but this month was the only time I did it again. ...

Welcome to Digongland

I thank myself for remembering that there’s a special exhibit at the SM Megamall ART Center yesterday — and it so happens that it’s an exhibition by a supporter of President Duterte. It’s called “Adventures in Digongland,” featuring artworks not just related to President Duterte, but also to current events. The artworks are bizaare and quirky, but the descriptions posted beside these artworks are funny and witty. ...
