“May’n in Manila” and how the local Otaku media covers it — Now this is Hype we’re talking about.

(Originally published at Deremoe on November 1, 2013.) We never knew this would happen. Animax Asia will hold its second iteration of the Animax Carnival Philippines this year; and aside from its change of venue to the TriNoma Activity Center (previously, this event was held at the Activity Area of the Robinsons Place Manila’s Midtown Wing) is a big surprise — Anisong Artiste May Nakabayashi (aka May’n) will be performing here in Manila. ...

#AnimaxCarnivalPH2013 Cancelled: Feels (Very) bad, man; but it can’t be helped.

(Originally published at Deremoe on November 20, 2013.) Let me be frank. Just now, what was supposed to be one of the happiest moments in my life has been cancelled. One last shining piece of hope in the midst of the troubles I am having now, gone in an instant. Animax Philippines has announced that the Animax Carnival Philippines 2013 has been cancelled, and according to them, the cancellation was made by the higher-ups at Sony Pictures Television Networks — Asia. ...

Hummingbird.ly: Yes/No Concept in my Anime Picking?

I’ve had my experience with Anime Listing websites like MyAnimeList and Anime-Planet but there will be another one soon, and this one is different — it uses a binary (YES/NO) system rather then the common decimal format. It’s called Hummingbird. The concept started from the question “what’s the difference between a 3.5-star series and a 4-star series?,” and using the binary system for anime recommendations is one feat to fulfill. ...

On Yura Yamato

(Combining two posts about Stella Women’s Academy High School Division, Class C³ published on Deremoe in 2013) Stella Women’s Academy High School Division, Class C³ (God knows how long that name was), shortened to C³-bu (much better) is a slice-of-life (?) airsoft gun-toting show that was aired in 2013, and even though it’s cringe-y throughout the duration of the series, it gives a thought or two on self-realization. I am so hooked on the series so much that I got compelled to write two posts about it. Here’s what I wrote. ...

Sekatsuyo — Figurative Chokeslam Approaching

When “Wanna be the strongest in the world!” or Sekatsuyo was announced, I’m excited — I’ve had my share of being a wrestling fan before; and I’ve got my share of Rikishi’s butt in my childhood days, thanks to my brother’s comrades way back in our first hometown. I’ve watched this show, and I can say that there are three constant things each time I watch this series: Ayana Taketatsu’s painful voice each time she gets wrestled out. Ayana’s character loses each match (but not long until she gets her first win) I’ve had this feeling of being choked figuratively each time I watch the poor idol girl get hurt. That feeling also translates to “will you give up?” Sure enough, Sekatsuyo is listed in one of the rarest segments of sports anime that is the wrestling anime category, but then it quite packs a punch. Knowing a bit about the Japanese entertainment industry, that is “if you are there, you can be in any position in due time;” such cases include AKB48 idols going the JAV route, but this is a unique case we’re looking at — not to mention, I don’t know if there was really a real-life case of an idol who pursued professional wrestling. ...

TV5’s Ana Perez: “We are committed to the Anime genre”

TV5’s Ana Perez: “We are committed to the Anime genre” (A post published on Deremoe in February 2015) During the 1st De La Salle University (DLSU) Communication Conference held in their Taft Avenue, Manila Campus, we were able to get in touch with TV5‘s Vice President and Head of Creative Services Ana Perez about the AniMEGA block. In that quick instance, we only asked a question: TV5 has acquired Anime titles for broadcast, and will it continue in the near future? “Yes, we re committed to supporting the Anime genre,” Perez said. ...

We need another Madoka Magica movie

I’ve heard about the third Madoka Magica movie. I’ve read the synopsis. I even went too far by obtaining the so-called “camrip”. Then it all ends in one conclusion — “I don’t even…” I’ve heard about the third Madoka Magica movie. I’ve read the synopsis. I even went too far by obtaining the so-called “camrip”. Then it all ends in one conclusion — “I don’t even…” Sure, I’ve seen the transcripts and accounts of those who have watched the movie firsthand. Sure, some of them can’t even believe that that moment was in the plot. Sure, Chiwa Saito warned us during an interview about the movie… ...

Is still there a community for us?

“We aim to be a destination for opinion on the Otaku community in the Philippines.” This is our vision for Deremoe, and the reason why “We don’t just share the news, we talk about it.” If we don’t mind the community, we won’t be transitioning at a point where you mostly see Cosplay and Event-related posts on the front page of our website; you’ll just see us discuss the latest Anime that we have watched recently. ...

Onward 2015: The Local Anime Magazine Industry

Onward 2015: The Local Anime Magazine Industry (Originally published at Deremoe on December 2, 2014.) It’s time once again to check out the Anime Magazine industry after a long slumber, and what is waiting for them next year. Otakuzine: Not a ‘prodigal son’ We were able to check out Otakuzine Anime Magazine‘s Anime Exhibit at SMX Manila last Sunday, and here’s what you need to know during the event. Misa appeared on her meet-and-greet session, and we got to finally hear her side about her disappearance during Ozine Fest 2014. She confirmed that she she was unable to go to the country and has to stay in Hong Kong due to immigration problems, being told that she doesn’t have a work visa. Ozine will be supporting WarGods — We have heard of the WarGods.Ozine team, and the upcoming WarGods Gaming Expo 1.0 at Megamall by the last weekend of December. According to WarGods during our chat at ESGS, they will be prioritized. We are yet to receive a response from Ozine’s side on what will happen to those who already had their tickets for the Ozine Anime Figure Special to be held on the same date and venue. PSICOM Publishing approached Otakuzine to come back to them, ending speculations that the latter is a “prodigal son,” adding that PSICOM has already managed themselves after the Wattpad hype and their agreement with Viva Entertainment. PSICOM also brought with them writers YanaJin, HannaLove, Lloyd Cadena and Marcelo Santos III for a book signing. Ozine was supposed to launch Issue 91, but for some reason we didn’t see them on the spot. It doesn’t help that we have heard that some attendees had their copies of Otakuzine confiscated to be returned at the exit. We are getting in touch with Ozine for this matter, and this post shall be updated once we get their response. Otaku Asia: Walking the talk It’s been a year since we had an interview with Otaku Asia‘s Editor Kent Diamante, and they stated to us that Otaku Asia will be increasing its price to Php100.00, alongside the expansion of their Gamer’s Arena section and the addition of a Seiyuu section. The December 2014-January 2015 issue will include a 2015 Calendar in which their readers can make, in an effort to make the magazine ‘interactive’. ...
