A photo dump of all things that happened when we celebrated Yoshiko Tsushima’s birthday at a local fastfood chain’s party zone YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYep. Hi Aikyan, please visit the Philippines — we have Jollibee here, and he’s better than the others. At the end of this post is a video, so make sure you watch it. ...

Neko Maid Cafe

“This one focuses on the food they serve.” While I was at GameCon.PH, I was thinking where should I eat. My hesitant decision-making eventually led me to a maid who introduced me to Neko Maid Cafe, just around the leftmost corner of the venue. (What made me actually take a look at it is the discount they gave at that time — it was already minutes past 7:00pm.) As I am waiting for my food, I am introduced to CJ*, who manages the operations. Let’s say this is their first, but CJ told me he has been to our local maid cafes (he also checked out a small maid cafe in Japan). One thing he notices with our current maid cafes is the food, he and his comrades tackled that, and Neko Maid Cafe is born. ...

Photos of the Day — July 10, 2017

Good evening! Here are some photos I took at the Likha exhibition inside SM Megamall’s Art Center. These paintings can be bought, and looking at the artist lineup, it’s no-brainer that these have high value. They are on exhibit until July 18.

Manga Hokusai Manga

Art Exhibit featuring Hokusai’s Manga and how it shaped the industry as we see it now Just a week before ToyCon, I visited the Ateneo Art Gallery to witness the “Manga Hokusai Manga” exhibit presented by the Japan Foundation, Manila with support from Embassy of Japan, Manila. All that I know of Hokusai is the famous painting, which is actually a part of his “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji” series, but I didn’t know that he has done something beyond that. The exhibit chronologically shows the works of Hokusai, as well as contemporary works. ...

LittleBits, Drones and Innovation at Manila Mini Maker Faire 2017

June 11, 2017 — Mind Museum at BGC Taguig I passed by the Mind Museum at the BGC to check out the Manila Mini Maker Faire. This weekend event boasts of various exhibits about creativity and just plainly making things in general. Among the photos in this gallery include: A different way to present and package cupcakes all in one— I’ve been told that this student project has been presented to entreps in Iligan city, and so I mentioned that the Department of Science and Technology has its packaging division that they might want to check out. I’m positive for it, if I say so myself. A demo of LittleBits and how it works— while it’s not necessarily in the internet-of-things landscape, it shows the bare basics of how kids can make tech stuff. SkyEye Drone Racing Series— while I was only able to see just one round due to time constraints, I’m already in daydream mode on how this should be broadcast all over the local TV or the internet. I also did a short video montage in the end of this post. See you in the next events! ...

How does Martabak taste like at the World Street Food Congress 2017?

Last week was a busy and a happy one for me — me and Ma were given an opportunity to bond together overnight at the Mall of Asia Complex, where I gave her a taste of Indonesia through a dessert served at the World Street Food Congress located at the Concert Grounds. The Congress has set up three huge tents (plus one for the dialogue), filled with food stalls which are cooking amazing food from different parts of the country and the rest of the world. ...

Looking for a taste of Japan in bustling Kapitolyo? Haru is the place to be

21 West Capitol Drive, Kapitolyo, Pasig City — open from 11 AM to 2 PM, and 5:30 PM to 10 PM Barangay Kapitolyo in Pasig is the home to Gastro Park and a lot of restaurants where those who want to wind down after a week of work can do so through food. There’s this resto called Haru located at 21 West Capitol Drive, just a few walks away from where I work. I always see it on my left as I pass by. ...

Seiyuu fans gather in Maginhawa. Here’s how it went.

It was a one hot Sunday in Quezon City when I visited the other end of Maginhawa St. in Quezon City. In Quezon City, if you want to pig out, you take note of this area, where a lot of specialty restaurants popped out, making it among the destinations for foodies. Just a long walk away from the UP Diliman Campus is the Red Monster Shop + Cafe. I’ve heard of Red Monster in conventions before as a merchandiser, but it’s really great that they have their own physical shop as well — many themed fan-gathering events are held on this space, some of which are related to either LoveLive! or Yuri!!! on Ice. Heck, they even have an upcoming Osomatsu-san themed cafe there. ...

Onegai Onii-chan’s Shitposting Marketing and how its customers respond to it

https://www.facebook.com/onegaioniichan/posts/1450127508365635:0 Onegai Onii-chan, as far as I can see, will be the most memorable hobby shop in today’s otaku community in the Philippines. Here’s why — they know what the market is like, and they act like the way most of the market does: no-holds barred, likes memes, and shitposts. Never in my life so far I’ve seen this kind of marketing where they mix in shitposting in probably every post about a new product, like the one I shared above. ...

I went to Madrid Fusion Manila 2017 Expo for a grandiose merienda.

Hi guys! I was able to get to Madrid Fusion Manila 2017 (or we can just call it as “Fusion Manila,” as per the invite) at the SMX Manila in Pasay City last Saturday. First, I’ll be showing you a lot of pics; then I’ll give some bullet points about this year’s event. There’s this gelato shop called “Manila Creamery” (they have a branch at the UP Town Center)which serves Burnt rice gelato (as in “Tinutong na Kanin”). I promised them I’ll go there to eat a full scoop. Sweetened cacoo nibs from Sikwate! are the best — I think the name is familiar to me though. My favorite Mindanaoan snack/bread Bulua is also visible in the Expo! Nestle Food Services is generous with its offerings — too bad I was only able to get a sample of their soft-serve concoction. There are other exhibits outside the Expo — there’s this Coconut Chips in salted and sweetened variations that are perfect for dressing desserts (or just plain snacking). What I like about the Expo is that I am able to taste a lot — no bullcrap, it’s like I went there for a grandiose merienda. Maybe the event’s not as grandiose unlike last year, but it’s still grandiose. Still looking forward to the next offering. Disclaimer: I got the invite from my boss who is managing the event’s security, same as last year’s. Many thanks, boss!
