Creative Print Advertising, or just plain horror?

My thoughts on my childhood as I see how some creatives use advertising on print I’ve had my own share of embarrassing stories, but there’s one thing that one of my aunties like to tell me: When I was a tot, I used to read Manila Bulletin (and I think I remember that). Fast forward to when I was a young boy living in a cool subdivision in Antipolo, there was this ad for Disney’s “The Incredibles” by Globe. It’s a full-page ad, placed in the back of the newspaper’s A section. The ad has a mockup of a newspaper’s page A3, but then The Incredibles pop out, “tearing” though the middle of the page. The bottom part states that mobile content for the said movie is available for download. ...

Ikebana in Manila

Hi everyone! This week’s photo set is all about Ikebanas. You know, those intricate flower arrangements that help beautify a living space. There was this exhibit by the Ikebana International Manila Chapter 108 in commemoration of its golden year of establishment. The exhibit was held at the Glorietta’s Palm Drive Activity Center (the more modest one) from March 10 to 12, and while I missed out on a lot, below are jut a few snaps from the said area. ...

S MAISON

Who would’ve thought that there’ll be a high-class mall just beside the Mall of Asia? After I visited the first Gunpla Expo Philippines, I went to S MAISON located at the Conrad Manila accessible through the SM Mall of Asia and SMX Manila bridgeways. During my visit to S MAISON, they have an art exhibit featuring the art of Jonas Roces and Christian Tamondong among others. ...

Gunpla Expo Philippines 2017

Brace yourselves for lots of photos from the recently-held Gunpla Expo Philippines 2017 held at the Main Mall Atrium of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay. Gunpla this, Gunpla that, magsawa po kayo sa mga Gunpla. This expo (which did gain international attention) is probably a thank-you from our guys in Tokyo for having a lively Gunpla scene (before this, we already have qualifiers for the Gunpla Builders World Cup). ...

PBNet SEO 101 Seminar

The members of the Philippine Bloggers’ Network (PBNet), having a post-event group pic. Content is king, yes, but you still need to talk to both humans and search engines to attract. Honestly, I’m in a school of thought that thinks SEO is no longer relevant and social media is the next big thing to gain attention. Over time, I realized I was wrong. At first, writing to search engines (search engine optimization, SEO) is like pondering to search engines because they have their own set of rules, whereas writing to humans (which is what I do at this very moment) has no rules and almost no boundaries. ...

The Ketchup Club Marikina

While I was on my duty for the Digital TV Summit for both the advocacy organization DTV Pilipinas and my company, I decided to give the org’s co-founder Kyle a visit. They had this family business called The Ketchup Club which serves hamburgers and milkshakes in a 70’s style environment. TKC’s highlight offering include their unlimited fries (additional purchase required), but I opted for their ₱50 burger a la carte, and it tasted good. I got treated to a carbonara and it tasted great as well. ...

Ooma at the BGC

Unlimited tea… and rice? Yes, rice. T‘was a Saturday night and I just came from Davao to check out the Denki Megatech Convention at the Philippine Trade and Training Center in Pasay, only to step inside before 6pm and found out that the event ended way too early. What did I do next? I hang out with my friends at AniZone and they introduced me to this restaurant called Ooma at the Bonifacio Global City. ...

Welcome to Digongland

I thank myself for remembering that there’s a special exhibit at the SM Megamall ART Center yesterday — and it so happens that it’s an exhibition by a supporter of President Duterte. It’s called “Adventures in Digongland,” featuring artworks not just related to President Duterte, but also to current events. The artworks are bizaare and quirky, but the descriptions posted beside these artworks are funny and witty. ...
